Abby Crawford Milton, a prominent leader in the fight for women's suffrage in the early 20th century, helped secure the right to vote in Tennessee. She was born in 1881 in Milledgeville, Georgia and later married George Fort Milton Sr. After becoming a prominent figure in the women’s suffrage movement, she became the last president of the Tennessee Equal Suffrage Association and led the campaign for women ' voting rights in 1919. She also spent a month lobbying members of the Tennesse General Assembly to support ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment. After her victory, she was the first president of The League of Women Voters of Tennessee and continued promoting civic participation among women.
