The Department of Justice has asked a federal judge to dismiss remaining charges against former Sgt. Kyle Meany and former Detective Joshua Jaynes, who were involved in the fatal raid that left Breonna Taylor dead in 2020. The motion was signed by Harmeet K. Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, and stated that the DOJ believes the charges should be dismissed "in the interest of justice" as it now views them as "weaponized federal outreach" by the Biden administration. Meany was charged with making false statements during an FBI interview and Jaynes was accused of conspiracy and falsifying records. The DOJ previously alleged that the men deprived Taylor of her right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizure. Despite a previous ruling by U.S. District Judge Charles Simpson that neither Meany nor Jaynes were responsible for Taylor's death, several lesser misdemeanor charges remain pending.
