King Charles III of the UK has addressed the U.S. Congress, marking the 250th anniversary of independence from Britain. He acknowledged "times of great uncertainty" and expressed gratitude to the American people and their democratic values. Charles is only the second British monarch to address a joint session of Congress and his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, delivered a similar speech in 1991. His remarks were delivered in a different environment than his mother's in the Capitol. However, there were subtle nods at issues that have divided the two countries, particularly on global affairs like the Iran war. The king also urged resolve in backing Ukraine against Russia and praised the NATO alliance that Trump has undermined.
