Despite another strong season, multiple sources suggest that James may skip a farewell tour and instead stay with the Los Angeles Lakers. If he leaves the Lakers, the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly potential destinations. The Lakers' late-season run has increased the likelihood of James staying with them since summer of 2018. However, financial considerations include the team's desire to re-sign Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, who are expected to be sidelined during their playoff series against the Houston Rockets, and James' willingness to sign for the midlevel of the minimum.
