President Donald Trump has announced a threatened naval blockade of Iranian ports, following peace talks between the United States and Iran that broke down. The blockade will affect all vessels entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including those on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. At least 15 U.S. warships are expected to participate in the blockade, but NATO allies are not expected to join. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the decision and plans to continue fighting in Lebanon. The process of a naval blockade involves a warning, boarding, detenting, and questioning of the ship's cargo, and its location. If Iran's ports are threatened, any international waters in the Gulf or Gulf would be considered "piracy".
