A robbery near the Vivien Thomas Medical Arts Academy in Baltimore has raised concerns about how Maryland monitors juvenile offenders on GPS ankle bracelets. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy, was already being tracked for a previous case and later tried to evade officers by tampering with his ankle monitor. The Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) Secretary Betsy Fox Tolentino stated that monitoring has improved since she took office and that improvements are being made. However, some residents have called for tougher penalties for juvenile offenders.
