Nine cops needed to restrain ex dual-code star

Former dual code rugby player Wendell Sailor was arrested following a drunken night out in Sydney's city centre in 2024. The 51-year-old became agitated when he was talking to another man at Pappy's Bar and threatened to call the police after being asked to leave the bar at least three times due to his level of intoxication. He was granted bail on conditions that included a public intoxication ban. However, he allegedly ignored this restriction when he went to a sports bar in Wollongong and drank a large volume of alcohol. Police were called after Sailor became aggressive with a taxi driver and found him stumbling and swaying in the middle of the road. He resisted nine officers before being taken into custody and maintained his arrest was racially motivated. His lawyer has asked the court to dismiss the charges on mental health grounds, citing information from a psychiatric report.
