UNC Health Rex Hospital in North Carolina has launched a mobile mammography unit, named Hope Esperanza, in an effort to reduce barriers to early breast detection. The unit will provide 3D breast screenings to patients with and without insurance within a 55-mile radius of Raleigh, areas often with limited access to health services. It also provides an opportunity to educate women on breast self-exams and other ways to spot early warning signs at home. The new unit will serve 21 counties. The CDC data also revealed that nearly a quarter of women ages 50-74 had not received an annual mammogram in at least two years.
