A Crystal Lake-based nonprofit medical clinic, Family Health Partnership Clinic, is seeing a surge in clients as health insurance costs rise, leaving many to go without health insurance altogether. The high insurance prices are partially due to the ending of COVID-19-era tax credits, which made Affordable Care Act health insurance more affordable. The clinic, which does not accept insurance, operates on a sliding fee scale and will not turn away anyone due to inability to pay. Northwestern Medicine has increased its support for the clinic, adding five volunteer providers to bring the total to seven and assisting clinics with speciality care and financial assistance access. The hospital also provided $100,000 to support staffing, supplies and the in-house pharmacy at Family Health Partners Clinic. Unlike federally qualified health centers, FHPC does not receive federal funding and does not accepts Medicaid or private insurance.
