Chinese-made humanoid robots triumphed over human runners in a half-marathon race in Beijing, setting a world record for the fastest time. The race, which was held in the same place last year, saw a significant increase in number of participating teams from 20 to over 100. The winning robot was developed by Chinese smartphone brand Honor and finished the race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, several minutes faster than the half marathon world record set by Ugandan runner Jacob Kiplimo. Nearly half of the robot entrants navigated the tougher terrain autonomously instead of being directed by remote control during the 13-mile race. The event was seen as a sign of China's rapid technical advances in robotics. However, experts warn that the skills displayed do not translate to widespread commercialization of humanoid robots in industrial settings.
