A transformer at U.S. Steel Gary Works has blown up, causing a loud boom, but no injuries were reported. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. on Friday and could be heard as far away as Valparaiso. The company successfully managed to limit the pressure on the transformer, which triggered a system that triggered additional breakers. There were no injuries or production issues.
