After experiencing temporary hearing loss, I became committed to protecting my hearing due to eustachian tube dysfunction. While researching ear health tips, I discovered that earbuds, a common piece of technology, could have contributed to my hearing issues. Dr. Ruth Reisman, a licensed audiologist and New York hearing aid dispenser, revealed that while wearing earphones, they can pose several risks, including heat and moisture in the ear, increasing the risk of ear infections, and wearing them for long periods can cause irritation or soreness in your ear canal. High volume can permanently damage the delicate hair cells in your inner ear and can cause tinnitus. If you don't have noise cancellation, you might repeatedly turn up the volume to avoid hearing background noise. Both Reisman and Dan Troast recommend the "60/60 rule" for people who wear earbud.
