The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its initial report on the crash that killed two pilots on March 22 at LaGuardia airport. The truck was part of a column of seven rescue vehicles that had received clearance from the tower to cross Runway 4 towards a United Airlines flight due to a strange odor. However, the tower tried to stop the convoy from crossing the runway, but this was too late. The NTSB's report indicates that another rescue truck driver also heard the command to "stop stop stop" coming from air traffic control but failed to heed it. The crash, which sheared the cockpit from the aircraft, left pilots Antoine Forest and Mackenzie Gunther dead and injured one other crew member and 33 passengers. The driver and the turret operator were seriously injured.
