Edward Graczyk, known for his work on Come Back To The Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, and the 1982 Broadway play and film adaptation both directed by Robert Altman, has died at 84. Born in 1941 in Pennsylvania, Graczyk had written several children's plays before moving to Ohio and served as the Artistic Director of the Players Theatre in Columbus. His work was inspired by his observations and frustrations with progress that ignores a past. The play was staged in New York City with Altman directing in his Broadway debut in 1982, but the film version won the Gold Hugo for Best Feature at the 18th Chicago International Film Festival and Graczyk won the Best Screenplay Award at the Belgium International Film Awards the same year.
