A California jury has ruled in favor of a 20-year-old woman who filed complaints against Meta and YouTube for negligence. The jury ordered Meta to pay $3 million in compensatory damages for causing the woman to become addicted to social media and negatively affecting her mental health. The ruling stated that the platforms failed to warn social media users about the risk of addiction and its impact on their mental health was exacerbated by their use. While Kaley's lawsuit sought to hold Meta accountable for her addiction, the defendants argued that the company does not take responsibility for what happened to Kaley. The verdict was made in front of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg after a seven-week trial.
