John Janke, a substitute teacher in Kelso, Oregon, has been teaching for 35 years and is retiring. The staff at Kelso High School decided to raise over $75,000 for his retirement. Despite not having the opportunity to become a full-time teacher, he persevered and leaves behind a legacy of teaching. The fundraiser was started by Rick Davis, who has worked alongside Janke for years.
