Bill Pearch, a man who lives in the 900 block of South Hillside Avenue in Elmhurst, has criticized the construction of large, costly homes in the area, stating that his home has been constantly interrupted by construction. His home is now assessed at $420,000, up from $360,000 in 2021, and he claims that his block has seen no expansion and 10 teardowns in the last six years. Pearch argues that the construction is beneficial for his property value as they only increase their property value when they sell, but increase property taxes. He also criticizes the lack of affordable housing in the town and suggested a housing commission to include all types of housing.
