Oil and gas company Hilcorp is ending its major oil exploration effort in the Yukon River watershed, without announcing any major petroleum discoveries. The company was set to drill both wells on land held by Indigenous-owned corporations, including the regional corporation for Alaska’s Interior, Doyon, Limited, but only completed one well in the summer of 2025. The exploration was expected to continue into 2026. However, HilcorP announced it had completed its exploration program and will begin demobilizing work in the coming months. The well that was drilled will contribute to the broader understanding of the YukON Flats basin and help inform future exploration in the region.
