Nevario legislator Dina Titus' bill, introduced by Titus, aims to prevent prediction markets from writing event contracts on sporting events, a form of wagering that is illegal unless an entity is licensed by a state gaming regulator. The Fair Markets and Sports Integrity Act would prohibit prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket from writing such contracts. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has been battling prediction markets for a year and has issued a cease-and-desist letter to Kalsh in March 2025 after it offered contracts online to customers. Critics argue that prediction markets don't monitor their customers, raising concerns about underage gambling and potential insider trading within them. Other legislation has been proposed by other House and Senate members, including the Prediction Markets Security and Integrity Act, The Death Bets Act, and The Public Integrity in Financial Prediction Markets Act of 2026, which would prohibit federal officials, including members of Congress, the president and vice president, from trading event contracts based on prediction markets.
