Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas have settled a $125 million settlement with Attorney General Kwame Raoul for raising prices for 'ineligible' projects. The settlement stems from monthly charges levied from 2017 through 2023 from the Qualified Infrastructure Plant surcharge and the Uncollectible Expense Adjustment riders. The state claimed that these funds were used for ineligible expenses such as capital work, expired permits, and "unsubstantiated change orders". Despite this, Peoples Gas has remained committed to pushing for a $202 million rate hike, blaming the project for increasing customer bills. The agreement also includes cutting $130 million in capital costs, saving customers over $350 million over several years.
