On March 14, Pi Day, or "Pi Day," is celebrated by enthusiasts who believe that the number 3.14 represents the three digits of the value of π. The idea of Pi Day originated with physicist Larry Shaw, who organized the first Pi Day celebration in 1988. The U.S. House of Representatives declared March 14 to be National Pi Day in 2009, which encourages schools to teach students about pi and to engage them in mathematics. In 2019, Google announced that its employee Emma Haruka Iwao had broken the world record for calculating pi to 31.4 trillion digits, reportedly doing it on Pi Day.
