Samsung has launched an app for Android that uses sound to relieve motion sickness with sound. The Hearapy app uses headphones already owned to stimulate the inner ear with a low-frequency bass sine wave played for around 60 seconds, which Samsung claims can resettle the internal ear's balance system for up to two hours. The app recommends headphones for best results, but it will not play the tone until headphones are connected. The company credits scientific research from Japan's Nagoya University that sound therapy can improve balance in mice and humans, and can reduce motion sickness symptoms during a car ride. The free app is available on the Google Play Store.
