Heather Knight, 39, has been charged with eight counts of animal abandonment and cruelty for allegedly abandoning eight puppies in Gaston County, North Carolina. The puppies were left at Gaston county Animal Care and Enforcement’s former location in Dallas, which has been closed for six years, and were discovered hours after the woman left them. Officials believe the animals were left to be left alone, as puppies that young need to be fed every two hours and can't keep themselves warm. Knight was identified after tips led to her arrest and the puppies' mother, Roxie, was surrendered to the shelter allowing them to be reunited with her. Once they're healthy enough to travel, they are expected to be placed in Virginia for adoption.
