Farrell Walsh, artistic and managing director of CIC Theater in Chicago, has been working towards a new permanent home for improv comedy after the company closed its longtime space at 1422 W. Irving Park Road in 2022. Walsh has been involved with CIC since the early 2000s, first as a performer, then as artistic director. He credits this move with keeping the theater afloat during the early days of the COVID crisis, which forced the company to pay only half of its rent. However, the building was purchased in 2022 and new landlords arrived, and new lease never materialized. Walsh and the company had to leave their home on Irving Park and return to the nomadic lifestyle of their early days. They have been looking for a permanent home and have begun working towards finding a new venue for their performances.
