Nation’s largest cherry blossom tree collection readies for 50th annual festival in N.J.

Essex County, New Jersey, will celebrate the 50th annual Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park April 4-19. The park's 5,300 cherry blossom trees are the largest collection in the United States. The two-week celebration will include races, cultural demonstrations, family activities, and a photo contest commemorating the festival's half-century history. A portion of the race proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics. The festival also includes cultural demonstrations and live music, a crafter’s marketplace, food and more. As part of the celebration, Essex County has launched its ‘scientately-themed’ Photo Contest. Selected winners will receive a family membership to the Turtle Back Zoo and a special Essex County swag bag. The public can participate in a fundraising campaign to purchase and plant cherry trees in Essex County Branch Brook park.
