El Cholo, a pioneering Mexican restaurant chain that opened in 1923, has been ranked first among the best in the country. Despite its relative proximity to Mexico, a sign outside described it as "Spanish food," and subsequent expansion into six locations, El Cholo has been a popular attraction for decades. It is also credited with introducing the burrito to the US in 1930. Celebrities such as Jack Nicholson, Elizabeth Taylor, Magic Johnson, Don Francisco, Paul and Linda McCartney, and Madonna have all been patrons.
