The Mid-South has seen less storms this spring due to drought conditions and high pressure preventing storms from reaching the area. However, there are increasing threats of severe weather in other parts of the United States, including the Midwest and Central U.S. The National Weather Service Memphis office has declared Friday a Severe Weather Day as a transition to a stormier pattern is expected. The most important thing is to be prepared for the upcoming severe weather season, as this time of year is the peak in annual severe weather activity. The 15-year anniversary of the 2011 Tornado Superoutbreak is approaching, with over 200 tornadoes over a four-day stretch across several southern states, including seven in the FOX13 viewing region.
