New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has asked President Donald Trump to drop immigration cases against four pro-Palestinian protesters pursued by federal immigration authorities. The cases, which were brought to light during an unannounced meeting with the president, are among a number of pro-Palestinian noncitizens targeted by the US last year following protests against Israel's military operation. The arrests have been met with outrage and concern from civil rights advocates who argue they were targeted for constitutionally protected speech. Only one of the four, Leqaa Kordia, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman who had lived in Paterson, New Jersey, is currently in custody. The continued immigration proceedings come after a federal judge criticized the administration for using an unconstitutionally broad definition of Anti-Semitism in its efforts to deport Palestinian students.
