Alaska lawmakers are raising concerns over a decision by Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom to release confidential information about the state's voters to the federal Department of Justice. Dahlstrom, who oversees Alaska’s elections, joined officials from several other states in agreeing to share information about voters that had never been requested by the federal government. Many states, including several Republicans, have refused to comply with requests for the information, leading to lawsuits from the Trump administration. The agreement between the Justice Department and Alaska's Division of Elections stated that Social Security numbers and driver's license numbers were shared with federal officials along with other information about Alaskans. However, under state law, voters' private information is considered confidential. Former Alaska Attorney General Bruce Botelho advised lawmakers to challenge the agreement with the DOJ in court to invalidate it.
