Katelyn Bell, a 23-year-old visitor from Portland, Ore., posted a video from the Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage showing a hummingbird building its nest on an exterior door handle. The hotel closed its front entrance for the safety of the bird, which was unable to leave. The video went viral and led to Bell's discovery that the hotel regularly hosts wildlife sightings. She also revealed that a nature person is on hand to maintain the nest and ensure no harm is caused by human activity.
