After death of 2-year-old Ohio girl, Hyundai issues stop sale for thousands of vehicles

Hyundai Motor has halted sales of around 68,500 2026 Hyundai Palisade Limited or Calligraphy trim vehicles following the death of a two-year-old girl from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on March 7. The stop-sale was issued due to concerns that the second- and third-row power seats could fail to detect contact with an occupant or object as designed. The child died after a power seat in a Palisades collapsed and pinned her to the ground, causing bystanders to free her. The Summit County Medical Examiner later ruled the girl's death an accident.
