Education Department Abandons Headquarters as Agency Heads for Total Extinction

The Department of Education is moving out of its headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C., with the Lyndon B. Johnson Building being given to the Energy Department. The move is part of President Donald Trump's plan to reduce the bloated federal bureaucracy and is expected to save $4.8 million per year. The department's workforce has been reduced in half since Trump took office and cannot be closed without congressional approval. The building it is leaving was 70 percent vacant. The Energy Department's outdated building is being moved to reduce costs.
