The Edinburgh TV Festival organizers have been considering relocation options for the first time in 50 years, with bids narrowed down to Greater Manchester, Newcastle, or the third option of remaining in Edinburgh. Critics argue that the festival's "alchemy" with the Edinburgh Fringe makes it more accessible to TV commissioners and executives who discover talent at the festival. Avalon boss Jon Thoday, who has a deep-rooted connection with both the Fringe and the festival, said relocation would be a "disaster" for the American industry. Tony Lankester, who runs the Fringes, also expressed concern that thousands of talent spotters would still come to the event. Graham Norton, friend of Taylor Swift and one of the UK’s most recognizable faces on TV, argued that relocating the TV Festival would be “madness” to relocate the fest. The decision to invite rival cities for the festival was driven by the cost of accommodation and hiring.
