A 'burning smell' was detected in an air traffic control tower at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) on Monday, prompting an evacuation of the tower. The airport temporarily halted all flights, but operations have since resumed. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. local time and occurred shortly after the passenger jet crashed into a firetruck crossing the runway. The FAA evacuated the tower due to smoke in an elevator. Flights resumed after the ground stop was lifted. This incident comes after a fatal crash at LaGuardia Airport involving a Jazz Aviation flight operated by Air Canada that left both pilots on board dead.
