On March 18, federal officials announced that the Trump administration is bringing "more healthy foods" to families who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). However, single mother of two young children, K.A. McPennenn, argues that this change is not about reform but rather about reducing access to healthy, nutrient-dense food options. She notes that the cost of healthier food options has surged due to administration policies on farming, tariffs and supply chains. She also criticizes the $187 billion in SNAP cuts tucked into the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was the largest reduction to the food program in its history. Despite these promises, grocery prices have not decreased and McPrennenn argues that fewer people are actually receiving aid.
