A video showing seven dogs from a village in northeastern China who were stolen from their homes and loaded onto a truck destined for the dog meat trade has become an internet sensation. The dogs managed to walk more than 10 miles back to safety, despite one dog being unable to walk due to a leg injury. The footage has been viewed over 230 million times online and has led to increased discussion about animal protection laws in China. The seven dogs, who lived in the same village near Changchun, Jilin province, came from three different households and spent their days roaming together as neighborhood pals. They were eventually found by a driver on the Changhun highway who filmed them walking in a line along the road. The return of the dogs has sparked a larger conversation about stricter animal protection rules in the country.
