New Jersey Sen. Chris Moore, a Democrat, argues that natural gas is the single most important part of the state's energy mix and that it is essential to reduce energy costs for New Jersey families and businesses. Moore argues that this strategy is inadequate as utility costs rise rapidly, with more than half of low-income households sacrificing food or groceries in order to pay utility bills. Natural gas is essential for expanding cleaner but less reliable renewable sources of power and ensuring an affordable and reliable energy backbone that drives economic growth and job creation. Despite plans to expand in-state energy supply and storage capacity, Moore urges support from Gov. Mikie Sherrill, who has signed legislation to update New Jersey’s permitting process for new nuclear facilities and remove barriers to development. Moore urges legislative action to address the imbalance between increased energy demands and decreased electricity generation within the state. He calls for a balanced energy portfolio, with 66% of New Jerseyans agreeing with a balanced portfolio of energy portfolio.
