KY residents urge lawmakers to boost crypto scam protections

Kentucky House lawmakers have approved a bill that would strengthen consumer protections for cryptocurrency kiosks. The bill requires kiosk operators to be licensed, requires user ID verification and sets daily transaction limits. As of 2024, there are estimated to be over 30,000 crypto kiosks in the country. Some 470 such kiosks operate in Kentucky. The average loss for consumers aged 60 and older is around $40,000.
