State Sen. Liz Miranda's admission of free tickets to a Boston Legacy FC game has raised questions about whether she was gifted the bundle and violated the $50 cap for gifts to state politicians. Tickets for the game cost between $27 and $244 based on season ticket packages that include 15 home games. Politicians in Massachusetts are prohibited from accepting gifts valued at $50 or more given to influence their official actions or because of their official position. Miranda represents Roxbury, and other neighborhoods that would be impacted by the City of Boston’s $325 million public-private plan to rebuild White Stadium for the Legacy. If the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs’ claim that the plan would unconstitutionally privatize public parkland, the city and soccer team would need to seek approval from the state legislature. School teacher Chris Boyd is running a campaign to unseat Congressman Jake Auchincloss (MA-04) on a platform of lowering costs, investing in public education, and strengthening democratic institutions. Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Deaton is calling for suspension of both state and federal gas taxes due to ongoing military action in Iran.
