British police have arrested a Sudanese man on suspicion of "endangering another person" during a sea journey to the UK, following four people who died trying to cross the English Channel from France. The 27-year-old man was detained at a migrant processing centre in Manston, southern England, under the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Act. This arrest comes a day after two men and two women were swept away by the current after trying to board a small boat off the coast of Saint-Etienne-au-Mont, near Calais in northern France. An ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the deaths and the launch of the boat is being led by French prosecutors.
