The Maryland School District has changed its school calendar to June 18, instead of ending classes on June 26. The change was approved after the Maryland State Board of Education approved a resolution to waive three days of instruction. The district is looking to make learning more meaningful and avoid potential high late spring absenteeism. The Maryland State Department of Education requires public schools to hold instruction for 180 days, with a minimum of 1,080 hours for elementary and middle schools and 1,170 hours for high schools in 10 months.
