FIFA has warned that New Jersey's $150 public transit fare at the World Cup will have a "chilling effect", leading to concerns of congestion, late arrivals, and potentially decreasing the economic benefit the region stands to gain from hosting the event. New Jersey Transit CEO Kris Kolluri had defended the price, citing higher passenger volumes and increased costs from World Cup security requirements. New York Governor Mikie Sherrill had previously suggested that NJ Transit was stuck with a $48-million bill to ensure fan safety while FIFA was making $11 billion. However, FIFA refuted these claims, stating they generate $11bn in revenue and reinvested into developing the game of football.
