Apple makes big bet with launch of $599 iPhone 17e, upgraded iPad Air

Apple has launched the iPhone 17e, a more affordable smartphone model that starts at $599 with 256 gigabytes of storage, in an effort to retain market share in a highly competitive global handset market. The move comes amid a global shortage of memory chips, suggesting Apple may be willing to accept some component cost pressure to make its lowest-priced model more appealing. The iPhone is powered by Apple’s latest-generation A19 chip and includes a new C1X modem, which Apple claims offers faster cellular speeds while consuming less power. The device will be available for pre-order from more than 70 countries and regions on March 11.
