Researchers from Northwestern University and the University of New Mexico have found evidence of a reservoir of water trapped in a rock 400 miles beneath North America. The water is trapped in the transition zone, which sits between 250 and 410 miles below the Earth's surface and is estimated to be three times the volume of the total water in the region. The discovery was published in Science.
