Ohio lawmakers are debating two bills regarding high school athletes' rights to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The bills would allow OHSAA athletes to have NIL deals while setting rules around them. One bill, sponsored by state Reps. Adam Bird (R)-New Richmond and Tex Fischer, would restrict high school athlete with NIL contracts from competing in sports overseen by the OHSSA. The second would require a written contract, parental consent for athletes under 18, and disclosure and review of contracts worth over $500. Both bills are seeking support from other lawmakers.
