Spirit Airlines ceases operations, strands passengers at DTW

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, leaving passengers stranded. The airline has been struggling financially, filing for bankruptcy protection in 2024 and 2025. It has stated that it will not assist in rebooking passengers on other airlines but will transfer refunds for flights purchased with a credit or debit card back to the original payment. The Wayne County Association of Aviation and the Department of Aviation also issued a statement urging affected travelers not to travel on Spirit flights.
