AFC has received no notification from Iran on World Cup withdrawal

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has not received any notification from Iran that it will withdraw its national soccer team from the FIFA World Cup. The 48-team tournament will be held in the U.S., Canada and Mexico from June 11. An official withdrawal from the World Cup would leave FIFA with the urgent task of finding a replacement. U.K. President Donald Trump has stated that Iran is welcome to participate in the tournament but not appropriate for their safety.
