Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas is facing a primary challenge from YouTuber and gun rights activist Brandon Herrera, who has over 4 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. The two GOP candidates advanced to a May 26 run-off following allegations that Gonzales had an affair with a staffer who later died by suicide. Gonzales and Herrera each commanded about 42.5% of the vote, with Marine Corps veteran Keith Barton and former congressman Francisco Canseco trailing with less than 10%. Several of Gonzales’ fellow House Republicans have called for his resignation or withdrawal from the race. Despite these allegations, Gonzales has denied having an affair and has said he will not resign. Gonzale has represented Texas' 23rd congressional district in the House since Jan. 2021.
