Paul Skenes led the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, allowing him to allow two hits over eight innings and allowing Brandon Lowe to score a first-inning homer off Michael Soroka. This was the longest scoreless outing ever for Skene, who has yet to last nine innings in a game. He also struck out seven and walked none while pitching at least eight innings for the fourth time in his career. Gregory Soto saved the game in the ninth for his second save. The Pirates have won four of their past five games and had previously lost five of their previous six games.
