The Poinsettia Bowl, or a bowl in Puerto Rico, is reportedly returning to the postseason college football lineup after a decade-long hiatus from being shuttered by the San Diego Bowl Game Association (now Sports San Diego) due to challenges to draw crowds and secure sponsorships. The return of the Poinsetia Bowl could help provide additional inventory for the bowl lineup after the Bahamas Bowl, LA Bowl and GameAbove Sports Bowl in Detroit went dark after last year's games. The Poinseltia Bowl was played in San Diego from 2005 to 2016, making San Diego one of the few cities with two postseason college games. However, the new Pac-12 conference, which began in July, needs to secure bowl tie-ins for its new membership, which includes San Diego State among five other former Mountain West schools.
